Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I qualify for private health insurance?

You can qualify for private health insurance if you are in decent health, without being a super athlete. If you don't have any major pre-existing conditions, like cancer, heart attack, stroke or diabetes, then you are likely to be considered for a private plan.

Does private insurance have the same "open enrollment" period?

Private healthcare plans are an excellent option, as they are available year-round and there are no restrictions on when you can enroll or cancel.Public Marketplace/ACA/Obamacare plans can be changed during Open Enrollment or if you have a qualifying life event. It's important to note that public plans can be canceled at any time. If you find a better plan that meets your needs, you can switch to it without any issues

Is private health insurance super pricey?

If you have pre-existing conditions or require maternity coverage, the ACA/Obamacare is a great option. If you're below the income threshold that qualifies you for government assistance, it can be affordable. If you don't qualify for government assistance, the premiums can be expensive. These plans often have high premiums and deductibles because they're open to everyone.

Employer plans are excellent for employees because employers are legally required to pay half of the employee's monthly premiums. However, adding family members can be costly because the employer isn't required to pay anything toward their premiums. This can lead to a significant increase in cost.

Because private insurance is medically underwritten, you can get a lower premium and preferred rates if you are part of a low-risk pool of people, which can make it more affordable than other plans with better coverage.

Am I locked in a contract?

Whether you choose a public or private health insurance plan, you are not bound to a contract and can cancel whenever you want. Employer coverage sometimes has a contract.

Where can I use my private insurance?

NATIONWIDE. Unlike other plans with smaller networks that limit you to doctors & hospitals in your zip code or county, all private plans are on PPO networks. You’re covered from California to New York & Florida to Minnesota!

How are health insurance rates calculated?

Insurance pricing is based on a combination of zip code, age, and either income or health. Since Public Marketplace/ACA/Obamacare plans are based on income, zip code, and age, they can be extremely expensive if you don’t qualify for government assistance.

Private plans take your health into account and are able to offer reduced rates

What if a plan sounds too cheap?

BEWARE of short-term & cost-sharing plans. These plans are always suspiciously cheap because they are NOT fully comprehensive coverage. They also do not cover any pre-existing conditions.

Do private plans include dental, vision, etc?

Yes! Supplemental products like Dental, Vision, Critical Illness, Accident Disability, Life, Income Protector, etc can be added to your private health insurance policy. If you need something we don’t help with directly, we have several trusted referral partners in our network that we can share with you.
